Mouth Guard

An acrylic mouthguard can be designed from the tooth impressions to minimize the abrasive action of tooth surfaces during normal sleep. Whether you are an athlete or a casual participant, you should wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth. Mouth guards should be worn on a long-term basis to help prevent tooth damage, damage to the temporomandibular joint and help stabilize the occlusion. We custom make mouth guards in both soft and hard materials.

02.

Tooth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a simple, non invasive dental treatment used to change the colour of natural tooth enamel. Teeth whitening is not permanent. Your teeth will darken over time. Changes in the color of your teeth can be caused by such factors as the food, beverages consumed (like coffee, tea and soda), childhood medications or illnesses, tobacco use or improper oral hygiene. Teeth whitening is ideal for people who have healthy unrestored teeth (no fillings) and gums.

Reasons:

  • Flourosis.

  • Stained teeth due to medication tetracycline etc.

  • Yellow, brown stained teeth.

  • Dental trauma.

Home Whitening/Bleaching – You may wish to whiten your teeth at home with your own custom fit trays that we will make for you. Tooth whitening gel is placed inside the trays and worn for up to one hour each day. Your teeth will progressively whiten over 2-3 weeks giving you a beautiful smile.

03.

Sedation

Nitrous oxide, more commonly known as “laughing gas,” is often used as a conscious sedative during a dental visit. The gas is administered with a mixture of oxygen and has a calming effect that helps phobic or anxious patients relax during their dental treatment. Because it is a mild sedative, patients are still conscious and can talk to their dentist during their visit. After treatment, the nitrous is turned off and oxygen is administered for 5-10 minutes to help flush any remaining gas. The effects wear off almost immediately. Nitrous oxide rarely has side effects, although some patients may experience minor nausea and constipation. Your doctor will provide you with pre-and post-sedation instructions.

04.

Sealants

Also termed as pit and fissure sealants are a dental treatment intended to prevent tooth decay are plastic coatings that are placed on chewing surface of the permanent back teeth- the molars and premolars of kids

05.

Orthodontics

Orthodontic deals primarily with the diagnosis, prevention and correction of malpositioned teeth and the jaws.
Here are some of the common conditions treated with orthodontics:

  • Deep bite: when the upper teeth cover the lower teeth too much.

  • Open bite: when there is an opening between the lower and upper front teeth.

  • Underbite: when the upper teeth fit inside the arch of the lower teeth.

  • Overjet: when the front teeth protrude.

  • Gaps between teeth.

  • Crossbite.

  • Overcrowding or Ovelapping teeth.

  • Aesthetic problems.

When a diagnosis has been made, there are a variety of orthodontic treatment options available.

Here is an overview of some of the most common treatments:

  • Fixed orthodontic braces – A metal or ceramic bracket is affixed to each tooth and dental wire is inserted and secured with metal wire or plastic bands and removed completely after the alignment of teeth.

  • Removable appliances – Including headgear that correct overbites, Hawley retainers improve and hold the position of teeth after correction, and facemasks to correct an underbite.

  • Oral Surgery – Needed if there are major differences in the size or position of upper and lower jaws.

06.

Invisalign

Invisalign – are the clear removable aligners alternative to metal braces for adults, kids and teens. With invisalign you don’t need to worry about the gums and mouth irritation because they are smooth and comfortable to wear. They can be removed before eating, drinking, flossing and brushing. Not all patients are candidates for Invisalign.

07.

Bruxism

Refers to parafunctional activity commonly known as sleep disorders and causes most of its damage during sleeping hours. Why bruxism should be treated:

  • Gum recession and tooth loss firstly damages the soft tissue directly and secondly because it leads to loose teeth and deep pockets where bacteria can colonize and destroy supporting bone.

  • Occlusal trauma – The abnormal wear of occlusal surfaces causing attrition, abrasion, abfraction, headaches and hypersensitivity of teeth.

  • Arthritis.

  • Myofascial pain.

08.

Crowns

A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure. Porcelain (tooth coloured crown) are the most popular. They are highly durable and will last many years.

Reasons for crown:

  • Broken or fractured teeth.

  • Cosmetic enhancement.

  • Decayed teeth.

  • Fractured fillings.

  • Large fillings.

  • Tooth has a root canal.

Reasons for crown replacement:

  • Breakage.

  • Perforation.

  • Tooth decay.

  • Failed cosmetic appearance.

09.

Space Maintainer

Space maintainers can be removable or fixed are made of stainless steel and/or plastic, help “hold space” for permanent teeth. Your child may need one if he or she loses a baby tooth prematurely, before the permanent tooth is ready to erupt.

10.

Fixed Bridge

A fixed dental bridge is an excellent way to replace missing teeth. The most popular type is usually made of porcelain fused to metal. This type of bridge consists to two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth) filling the gap by one or more missing teeth.
Missing teeth can cause:

  • Shifting of the teeth.

  • Temporomandibular joint disorder.

  • Speech problem.

  • Increased risk for periodontal disease.

  • Greater chance of tooth decay.

  • Reasons for a bridge:

  •  Fill space of missing teeth.

  • Maintain facial shape.

  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position and closing the space

  • Restore occlusion, chewing and speaking ability and smile.

11.

Dentures

A denture is a removable dental appliance replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. If you have lost teeth from decay, periodontal (gum) disease or trauma, dentures are the solution.
Reasons for dentures:

  • Complete denture: loss of all teeth in arch.

  • Partial denture loss of several teeth in an arch.

  • Enhance smile and suport facial tissues affected by tooth loss.

  • Improves chewing, speech and digestion.

  • Restore your confidence.

12.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Your wisdom teeth are the four molars that appear when you’re in your teens or early twenties. Inadequate space or small jaw in mouth does not allow wisdom tooth to erupt properly or become fully functional. When this happens the tooth can become stuck in an undesirable or harmful position. If left untreated impacted wisdom tooth can contribute to:

  • Infection.

  • Damage to other teeth.

  • Possible cysts and tumours.

13.

Implants

Implants are biocompatible long lasting and permanent solution for patients who have missing one or more teeth. Implants are made of titanium, which works best with living bone and tissue and can be implanted without threat of infection. They are surgically placed into the jawbone below gum level, with the sturdy metal post acting as a replacement for the tooth’s root. Implants are good for replacing a single tooth, many teeth or for providing support for dentures. They help use to eat, give us esthetics and help with speech. These new teeth increase chewing ability means you can enjoy more nutritious foods, maintain dental arch space and improve function. In short, dental implants improve the quality of your life. Two or more implants are placed in the bone and integrate into the bone. The implants then have attachments embedded in them that click into the denture to hold it in place.

14.

Sensitive Teeth

Many patients develop a common condition called dental hypersensitivity which may involve a sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet, sour, brushing or flossing. Dentine is a layer of your tooth under the hard enamel surface that has nerve endings that can be responsive to temperature, acidic foods, touch and other factors as changing brushing habits can lead to problems. Dentine may be exposed to certain stimuli for the following reasons:

  • Brushing too hard.

  • Receding gums have exposed dentine.

  • Tooth grinding.

  • Acidic food.

  • Stomach acid (Acid Reflux).

  • Cavities

  • Exposure to few tooth whitening products

  • Abrasive tooth pastes

Make changes to your food. Reduce intake of highly acidic food. Rinse with water after eating. Select soft brush. You should brush 45 degree angle and in a circular motion. Using special toothpastes high in potassium nitrate and fluoride content can assist in reducing sensitivity related to gum recession. Additionally, the use of sealants, desensitizing agents and filling material being placed with fluoride releasing capabilities can also alleviate some form of tooth sensitivity.

15.

Cavity

Causing bacteria in mouth consume simple sugars converting them to acid plaque. Acid plaque produce by these bacteria cause the hard inorganic layers of enamel and dentine to soften and then it is dissolved by saliva leaving a hole cavity in tooth. Unless filled by dentist the cavity can continue to erode and damage the inner pulp of the tooth. Damage to pulp can lead to pulp death, infection and tooth abscess. Therefore pulp damage necessitate either tooth extraction or a root canal procedure.

How to prevent cavities:

  • Timely detection and treatment of tooth decay and cavities.

  • Good oral hygiene.

  • Brushing at least twice a day and flossing daily.

  • Dental cleaning every six months.

  • Reduce intake of sugary foods and drinks.

  • Dental sealants for children.

  • Fluoride consumption.

16.

Root Canal Procedure

Signs and symptoms for root canal therapy:

  • An abcess on the gums.

  • Sensitivity to hot and cold.

  • Severe toothache.

  • Sometimes no symptoms are present.

  • Swelling and tenderness.

  • Deep fillings.

  • Bad cavities.

Root canal therapy involves a process where the tooth is first frozen an access is created to remove the damaged pulp tissue and bacteria, cleaned and shaped to receive a filling material which seals the root canal area. Since your tooth will no longer receive vital nutrients it will be more brittle than surrounding teeth with this in mind you need a crown to strengthen the tooth and protect your chewing surface.

Oral Examination

Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. We will also take x-rays as per person’s needs, which includes  periapical x-rays of anterior and posterior teeth showing the entire length of the crown to the bone that supports the tooth, as well as the bite-wing x-ray series for the proper diagnosis of proximal decay of the posterior teeth. Panoramic X-ray show broad view of teeth, jaws, sinuses, nasal area and TMJ and also shows impacted teeth, bone abnormalities, cysts, solid growths, infections and fractures. Cephalometric X-ray is a diagnostic radiograph used for orthodontic treatment planning. It is advisable to have dental examination and cleaning at least once in every six months.

22.

Dental X-Rays

Dental radiographs are essential, preventive, diagnostic tools that provide valuable information not visible during dental exam.
Dental x-ray may reveal:

  • Abscesses or cysts.

  • Bone loss.

  • Cancerous and non cancerous tumors.

  • Decay between teeth.

  • Developmental abnormalities.

  • Poor tooth and root positions.

  • Problems inside a tooth or below the gum line.

  • Impacted tooth and it’s position.

  • Fractures
